The Culinary-Tourism Symposium 2005 - PROVINCIAL SUCCESS!

After months of anticipation, the Culinary-Tourism Symposium took place on March 6 - 8th.

It began on Sunday March 6th with an afternoon "Round Table" discussion. Over 125 people joined the Deputy Ministers of Tourism and Recreation, Bill Allen and Frank Ingratta, Agriculture and Food (OMAF) to begin discussions between Ontario food and beverage growers, producers and culinary professionals. For details of this exciting provincial dialogue see FIELD TO TABLE: A PROVINCIAL DIALOGUE.

Later on Sunday, the 'Opening Night Showcase' was held. Delegates from across Ontario and Canada were welcomed by Tim Peterson, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Tourism and Recreation who brought greetings on behalf of Jim Bradley. The Ministry of Tourism and Recreation was the "Premier" sponsor of the Symposium. Music filled the atrium at George Brown College by the rhythmic sounds of the Marigolds. Thirteen colleges and universities, from across Ontario, exhibited the succulent delicacies of their regions. Each step around the various exhibits took us in a different direction while savouring the 'Tastes of Ontario.' For further details and pictures visit OPENING NIGHT SHOWCASE & CHEFS CIRCLE.

Food and beverage producers were also busy as delegates sipped different wines and beers from all across the province while learning more about what is grown and produced in our backyard. For further details and pictures visit SPONSORS.

The two following days consisted of panel discussions, presentations and networking, allowing delegates to learn from the experiences and knowledge of the practitioners of Culinary Tourism in Ontario and some who shared their work from other parts of Canada. For further details and pictures visit PROGRAM and SPEAKERS.

After the official closing of the Symposium, some of the delegates and organizers enjoyed a post symposium culinary tourism excursion to the Montgomery Inn in Toronto where they experienced a tour and historic dinner - what could be better than concluding this event with an authentic culinary tourism experience! To all who participated, shared their knowledge, exhibited their regions, their products and generously supported us, we thank you!
