The Culinary-Tourism Symposium was the first of its kind in Ontario!
George
Brown College and The Canadian Institute of Advanced
Culinary Arts™ hosted
the first annual Culinary-Tourism Symposium in Toronto,
Ontario, March 6-8, 2005.
This exciting initiative has been designed
as a 3-year
learning journey - growing our knowledge, nurturing our
experiences and becoming a culinary tourism destination
of choice. The first part
of this journey began at the Symposium. It was created
for all industry stakeholders in Ontario who are interested
in stimulating new growth
in their markets by exploring the benefits of Culinary-Tourism.
This was an ideal opportunity to:
- listen to experts share their experiences and best practices,
- engage
in stimulating dialogue about some of the integrated
strategies and marketing techniques that regions
have successfully used to draw visitors to their areas
- network with representatives
of a variety of industry sectors including tourism,
hospitality, agriculture,
government, leisure and recreation, arts and culture, and
artisanal food producers.
As the symposium has concluded,
participants will be invited to partake in at least
three exciting new initiatives
that will demonstrate what we have learned from the
selected culinary tourism
experts from around the world and put our strategies
in action! Experts from leading colleges and universities
will support and lead these initiatives.
Years 2
and 3 will be a continuation of this journey - learning,
experiencing and sharing best practices,
results of our projects and research initiatives,
and discovering practical ideas that
can be tried in your communities.
